Donating money is one way to support a cause that matters. But for Mich\u00e8le Laframboise\u2014Partner at Normandin Beaudry Asset Management\u2014the greatest reward comes from giving her time and serving as a volunteer board member at La Travers\u00e9e<\/span><\/a>. Her son \u00c9tienne shares that same vision and contributes actively to the organization\u2019s mission. This is the story of a mother\u2013son duo with generosity at heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Gesture of Gratitude<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was only once her children were older and her career more settled that Mich\u00e8le found room in her life for volunteer work\u2014and realized just how much joy it brought her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI discovered a bit late that getting involved is really about connecting with people and seeing the tangible impact,\u201d she explains. \u201cIt creates a virtuous circle we should all start as early as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her son \u00c9tienne understands this well. Despite a full life\u2014university, work, sports, and community activities\u2014he devotes more than 50 hours a year to volunteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m grateful that my schedule is filled with things I choose to do and not things I\u2019m forced to do,\u201d he says. \u201cThe least I can do is give some of my time so others can have that same privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing a Cause: Sexual Violence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mich\u00e8le and \u00c9tienne are regulars at the Bromont Ultra<\/span><\/a>, a legendary trail race that raises funds for organizations like La Travers\u00e9e. At first, they supported all participating causes. Over time, they chose to focus more intentionally on the issue of sexual violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSexual violence often goes unseen in our day-to-day lives, yet it\u2019s a reality that shocks me deeply,\u201d says Mich\u00e8le. \u201cIt\u2019s a power imbalance\u2014an abuse of trust and love\u2014that shatters someone from the inside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statistics speak for themselves: 80% of adult victims knew their aggressor<\/span><\/a>, a figure that rises to 95% for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tienne adds: \u201cIf something happened to someone we love, we\u2019d want to offer them all the help in the world\u2014all the resources possible. That\u2019s why I\u2019m involved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving Is Also Receiving<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after joining La Travers\u00e9e\u2019s Board of Directors in 2020, Mich\u00e8le realized that her role went far beyond governance and fundraising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a member of the organizing committee for La Travers\u00e9e\u2019s annual Golf Classic<\/span><\/a>, she discovered a passion for rallying people, raising awareness about sexual violence, and supporting a deeply committed team. She also highlights the volunteer engagement of police officers\u2014on top of their investigative work\u2014and the tireless creativity of the organization\u2019s leadership in public education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s inspiring to see the exceptional dedication of so many people\u2026 but they can\u2019t do it alone,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passing On Values<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over time, the philanthropic activities and race training became cherished traditions\u2014moments just for the two of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like watering a plant: the time we spend together nourishes our relationship,\u201d says \u00c9tienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mich\u00e8le is proud to see her son embrace these values and give them such an important place in his life. For her, they\u2019re essential ingredients for a meaningful, fulfilling life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe often chase happiness through travel, relationships, and busy schedules,\u201d she observes. \u201cBut happiness is right here within reach\u2014and it costs nothing. Just our time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
