{"id":54781,"date":"2025-11-25T21:40:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T21:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.latraversee.qc.ca\/?p=54781"},"modified":"2025-11-25T22:00:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T22:00:55","slug":"sexual-violence-how-a-pilot-project-in-longueuil-is-dramatically-increasing-reporting-rates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.latraversee.qc.ca\/en\/sexual-violence-how-a-pilot-project-in-longueuil-is-dramatically-increasing-reporting-rates\/","title":{"rendered":"Sexual Violence: How a Pilot Project in Longueuil Is Dramatically Increasing Reporting Rates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On November 21, 2025, Radio-Canada released a feature on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latraversee.qc.ca\/en\/civis\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"49159\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centre de services int\u00e9gr\u00e9s en violence sexuelle<\/a><\/span> (CIViS), a first-of-its-kind pilot project in Qu\u00e9bec created by La Travers\u00e9e in collaboration with the SPAL and the CAVAC Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie. Since 2023, this innovative model has aimed to simplify the path for people affected by sexual violence by bringing together, under one roof, services that are typically scattered across multiple institutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Integrated Model to Reduce Barriers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea grew from a simple \u2014 and troubling \u2014 reality:<br>The journey of a person who has experienced sexual violence is a maze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From disclosure, to medical care, to psychological support, to filing a complaint, to navigating the justice system, individuals must knock on many doors, repeat their story multiple times, and relive their trauma again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reb\u00e2tir la confiance report, published by Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Ministry of Justice in 2021, exposed major system gaps and emphasized the need for a more human and coordinated response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At La Travers\u00e9e, a question emerged:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What if, instead of leaving people to navigate this system alone, everything they needed existed in one place?<br>What if support could be continuous, coordinated, and trauma-informed \u2014 from beginning to end?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is how the CIViS was born. Since 2023, this pilot project \u2014 made possible with the support of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Ministry of Justice \u2014 has brought together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>psychosocial services provided by La Travers\u00e9e;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specialized psychotherapy for victims of sexual violence, offered free of charge by La Travers\u00e9e \u2014 a service not accessible for free anywhere else in the community network in Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie for adults;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the expertise of CAVAC;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the presence of trained SPAL investigators, twice a week, directly on-site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective: simplify the path for victims, reduce barriers, and prevent retraumatization caused by repeating their story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reporting Rates Ten Times Higher Than Elsewhere in Qu\u00e9bec<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the CIViS launched:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f 54% of the people supported by La Travers\u00e9e have chosen to file a police report<br>\u27a1\ufe0f a rate ten times higher than the Qu\u00e9bec average (~5%)<br>\u27a1\ufe0f and more than 430 individuals have been supported through this integrated model<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These results confirm a crucial reality:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the right people, fewer barriers, and trauma-informed psychosocial and psychotherapeutic support, more victims feel grounded enough to consider legal or judicial action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Person-Centred Approach<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/recit-numerique\/14534\/denonciations-police-crimes-sexuels-longueuil-la-traversee\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ici.radio-canada.ca\/recit-numerique\/14534\/denonciations-police-crimes-sexuels-longueuil-la-traversee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Radio-Canada report<\/span><\/a> highlights what sets the CIViS apart:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a warm, safe environment adapted to both children and adults;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the option to give a police statement directly at La Travers\u00e9e instead of at a police station;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fluid information-sharing, always based on consent;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>immediate follow-up from the clinical team after an investigative interview;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an approach designed to prevent retraumatization, particularly by reducing the need to repeat the account of events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This work also takes place within a broader ecosystem of nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latraversee.qc.ca\/en\/partners\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.latraversee.qc.ca\/en\/partners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">40 institutional, community, health-care, and justice partners<\/span><\/a> \u2014 all mobilized around the needs of the victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Model with the Potential to Inspire Qu\u00e9bec<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Qu\u00e9bec government is closely observing the CIViS, seeing it as a promising model for other regions.
