A 60-minute documentary
Streaming online October 9 and airing on television October 13 at 8 p.m.
Briser les murs takes viewers behind the scenes of the first Integrated Centre for Sexual Violence Services (CIViS), where victims of all ages and genders can access—free of charge and under one roof—the full range of support they may need, whether police, social, legal, or psychological.
Through powerful testimonies and diverse perspectives, the film sheds light on a groundbreaking, human-centred approach, unique in Québec: a place where silos are broken down, expertise is shared, and each journey is designed to ease both the administrative and emotional burden on victims while also supporting their loved ones.
“After a sexual assault, victims often face a maze of services. They may end up retelling their story to dozens of people without knowing who can actually help. The CIViS pilot project, launched in Montérégie in 2023, has changed that. It’s a unique space where more than 30 partners—lawyers, psychosocial workers, psychotherapists, and police officers—work hand in hand to support each victim with compassion and continuity. Everything is centralized. Everything is free.”
– Christine Vilcocq, Executive Director, La Traversée
Filmed in Montérégie
Directed by Vanessa Boisset (Vivre en funambule, Un Québec toujours fou de ses enfants?), the documentary was shot in Montérégie. It showcases this new model of coordinated care, led and hosted by La Traversée—a psychosocial and psychotherapy support centre—in partnership with the Montérégie CAVAC and the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service, with financial support from Québec’s Ministry of Justice.
Briser les murs will premiere on October 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Cineplex Odeon Brossard.
